Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4

Posted by famousfive On July - 10 - 20101 COMMENT

The Lego franchise has already had a number of outings in the console gaming arena, Star Wars, Batman and Indiana Jones have all had the Lego treatment, some more than once. And yet here we see another addition to the tried and tested formula, but will the magic still be there, or is it one game too many in a series that essentially produces the same game, only with different characters and environments, over and over again?  Read the rest of this entry »

Gran Turismo 5 Visual FX Trailer

Posted by famousfive On July - 9 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

I haven’t really bothered saying much about Gran Turismo 5 so far, basically because I thought it was going to be the same old, highly polished, crap. That’s right, I’m a hater, but only because Gran Turismo is the worst racing game ever, due to it’s ‘bump and go slow’ collision mechanics. However if the new trailer is anything to go by, this may be about to change, although there does seem to be the usual Gran Turismo ‘cars never get damaged’ formula still in place.

Sony’s been a bit patchy in sending review material recently, but if a copy of Gran Turismo 5 comes my way, I’ll certainly be keen to put it through it’s paces and see if it can turn me into a believer.

Zombies Coming To Red Dead Redemption

Posted by famousfive On July - 9 - 20101 COMMENT

Rockstar has announced plans for an ongoing series of DLC for Red Dead Redemption. Four packs will be released for the PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE over the next few months, starting with the Legends and Killers Pack at the beginning of August 2010, and culminating with the Red Dead Redemption ‘Undead Nightmare’ Pack this fall. The packs follow the recent release of the free Outlaws To The End Co-Op Mission Pack, which is currently available on PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE.

“We want to continue to provide Red Dead Redemption’s fans with a steady supply of innovative new content,” said Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar Games. “Our goal is to continue to pack as much entertaining gameplay and as many surprises as we can into the massive world of Red Dead Redemption over the coming months.”

The upcoming downloadable content for Red Dead Redemption includes:  Read the rest of this entry »

Crackdown 2

Posted by famousfive On July - 8 - 20101 COMMENT

When Crackdown 2 arrived on my desk, I decided I would take it home and have a play around with it for about n hour or so. I didn’t want a late night as I’ve been burning the midnight oil a little too much recently. So after the training level and a couple of early missions, I decided to explore a bit and see how many of those magic orbs I could collect. At some stage the game prompted me to look at my stats to see where my mission objectives were, so I did. But rather than looking at my mission objectives – which I already knew, but was choosing to ignore – I looked at some of the other stats, and something struck me as weird. When I looked at ‘time spent in Pacific City’ it stated that I had been running around the fictional, cell shaded location for close to four hours. Odd I thought that it didn’t use real time like most games. Why on earth would it use an excellerated time keeping…. hold on…. wait, it’s almost 1am already? Damn.

So yeah, if nothing else, Crackdown 2 is the same level of addictive fun as the original Crackdown.

But unlike most other sequels, Crackdown 2 doesn’t seem to subscribe to the bigger is better mantra. Infact there seems to be a huge amount of sameness to the game. Same location, same graphics, same gameplay.  Read the rest of this entry »

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11

Posted by famousfive On July - 8 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

It’s been a while since I played a golf game, and things seem to have changed somewhat. In the old days you got to turn your character around to face the direction you wanted to hit the ball in, then select the appropriate club, then determine the amount of power but pressing a button.

With the latest Tiger Woods game, things are a little bit more advanced. For starters, you get a limited amount of focus. Focus is what Luke Skywalker would use when playing golf, however unlike Luke’s Jedi powers, your focus is limited and has to be used wisely. It can be used to help boost the power of your shot, improve the accuracy of your shot, add mid-air spin and give yourself a much needed putting preview. But use it wisely young Jedi, or you will use it all up.

If this sounds all a little too easy, it’s not. It’s still a game of golf and with the limited powers EA have given you it’s still all to easy to keep getting the ball lost in the long grass or abundant sand bunkers dotted along the fareway.  Read the rest of this entry »
