Risen

Posted by admin On October - 19 - 2009

risenRisen starts of with a dramatic cut scene, the raging seas and a mythical monster. The boat you stowed away on is smashed and you awake washed ashore on the beach. A complete novice to role-playing games, I knew enough to search the area to se what I could find. There was all manner of items to be picked up, but wandering too far down the beach lead me into an encounter with some giant vulture creatures, that killed me with little effort. It’s then that I realised I should be looking for a weapon before I explore too far. Restarting I set out in the opposite direction looking for a weapon, instead encountering a woman shipwreck survivor who indicated that the drift wood over there would make a good weapon. Not exactly a SMG, but thinking of the period this game is set in, I wasn’t holding out any hope for an arsenal of modern weaponry – the driftwood would have to do. The only way off the beach seemed to be an uphill path, which leads to another of those giant vulture creatures. This time however I was able to despatch of the vile beast with my trusty – um – driftwood. I also discovered that I could tell my now hungry female companion to stay put whilst I make sure the way ahead was clear.  Read the rest of this entry »

Stoked

stoked 360I’m not sure if it was the original Playstation or the PS2, but there was a series of snowboarding games that were a lot of fun. You got to board down a pre-defined track, with lots of convenient things to trick off. The gameplay was so simple. You could just button mash your way to a high score, and landing was easy, in-fact the Playstation just about did it for you. It was one of the most fun games around. Sadly however, like Wii Fit it got old real quick. Once the initial fun wore off there was no real challenge worth hanging around for. This probably explains why I never considered playing any snowboarding games on my XBox (I don’t even know if there was any!) or until recently, on my 360.  Read the rest of this entry »

MW2multiplayer

Modern Warfare 2 will not be without some form of co-op. The game features Spec Ops mode, a mission-based multiplayer experience that supports up to two players via local split-screen or online. Infinity Ward initially had planned to offer co-op throughout the game’s main campaign, but decided the overall experience ultimately suffered because of it.  Read the rest of this entry »

Microsoft Reportedly Using ATI GPU For Next Xbox

Posted by admin On October - 16 - 2009

ATI radeonATI cards have been fueling consoles for quite a long time now, having most recently been included in both the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii. And apparently Microsoft is happy, because it appears that ATI will be providing the GPU for the next generation as well.

Fudzilla is reporting that Microsoft is happy with the Xenos GPU and want to continue using it, particularly because it will enable them to maintain compatibility with older games. Based on the delivery timeline, the site speculates that it will be a 28 nm part.

Word is that the next generation was supposed to start next year. However, due to the recession, both Microsoft and Sony has reportedly pushed their plans back to 2012. That would make the Xbox 360 seven years old when its successor arrived, and the PS3 six years old. [1up]

Call of Duty Classic Achievements Uncovered

Posted by admin On October - 15 - 2009

call of duty classicXbox360Achievements has uncovered the Digital Accomplitrons for Call of Duty Classic, set to to be bundled with special editions of Modern Warfare 2 and to be release on XBLA “eventually.” Much like the most recent iterations of the Call of Duty franchise, Classic doesn’t have a single multiplayer Achievement, which should hopefully keep everyone focused on actually playing the game. The Achievements that are there offer points for completing campaign levels, completing the game itself, and accomplishing a few more challenging objectives. [joystiq]

Assassin’s Creed Set to Enter WWII

Posted by admin On October - 15 - 2009

assasins creedWhen asked whether or not the Assassin’s Creed series would be getting a third installment, Assassin’s Creed 2 producer Sébastien Puel thinks the answer almost goes without saying. “I’m often asked if we’re doing a third game after ACII… I mean, we could do 35 of these.” When the game’s creative director told us the second game would be ending with a cliffhanger, we didn’t know he meant we’d have to play 35 games to resolve it – that’s approximately 35,000 assassinated fools, by our estimations.

Explaining his hyperbole further, Puel admits that a female assassin isn’t out of the question, even confirming “We’ve had discussions on that very topic.” Still, the Ubisoft producer doesn’t want to switch the protagonist’s gender without a good reason. “World War II, the economies in England and France were run by women because the men were off fighting … we don’t want to just decide we want to change and have a female hero, as the first inspiration is always the time period.” [joystiq]
