Gamers will be able to use their Wii Remote to bat and bowl their country to success when ‘Cricket’ is released November 5th; the integration of the Wii is set to take players closer to the action than ever before. To be published by Codemasters, the home of video game cricket, ‘Cricket’ will feature fully licensed players, kit and stadia from the npower Ashes Series 2009 between England and Australia offering a completely authentic experience.
‘Cricket’ will enable up to four players to take to the field in a variety of game modes including the iconic Ashes Series, Test Matches and limited over games including 20 overs. Batsmen will use the Wii Remote to drive, cut and slog their way through an innings. When fielding, players will use the Wii Remote to shine the ball, set their field and bowl accurately applying swing/turn to their deliveries in order to take those all important wickets. Ok, I have to be honest, reviewing a game based on an up-coming kids film was not high on my to do list. In fact, it never made it to my list. Add to this the unavoidable truth that you get to play the part of a Special Agent Guinea Pig and you don’t have a game that on the surface screams, “You need to play me.”
Yes, I did say Guinea Pig.
If you’ve never heard to G-Force, it’s in cinemas this week, and if you have young kids, they will love you forever – well, for a couple of hours anyway – if you take them. Video games in Australia cannot be rated R18+ as the rating only exists for film. This has led many games to be edited (to obtain an MA15+ rating) or refused classification. There is currently a debate over the need for the introduction of an R18+ rating in video games fuelled by research that indicates the average age of the Australian video gamer to be 30 years old. The lucky guys over at joystiq got to attend a multiplayer evening with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and it seems like they enjoyed themselves no end! But what did they discover? Here’s a brief round up:

To start with, MW2 is a lot more customisable, even your call sign can be customised with an emblem and title. Your emblem starts as a pair of dog tags and moves up to rank patches. Gabe Newell may be going to Australia, but his latest game, Left 4 Dead 2, is not. The Australian government has refused classification to the upcoming zombie shooter’s “realistic, frenetic and unrelenting violence.” Because the Australian ratings system doesn’t offer an 18+ rating for games, Left 4 Dead 2 joins the growing list of games banned by the government.
